- If your product is on your GPS unit's internal memory, you must back it up before initiating the update, or you might have to resend it once the update is done
From one GPS unit to another, the creation process is different. You can find your Garmin GPS unit's manual in PDF format here. You can choose your device from the page's menu.
Some Garmin GPS units may require you to set the level of detail in the settings. Most units have it set to normal as a default. If you want to set it for a higher detail, you can do so by going to the following menus:
- Tools
- Settings
- Maps
Adjust to the highest level of detail to see the most detail.
Note: Some Garmin GPS units may present the menus differently.
TOPO, Quad, Snowmobile and Off-road Motorcycle products are routable. They work as follows:
The non-transparent map is routable and must be the only map checked in your GPS unit's settings
- Tools
- Settings
- Maps
- Map Info
No other map must be checked. The routability allows the user to create itineraries for various outings.
The Marine product is not routable and must be the only map checked in your GPS unit's settings.
- Tools
- Settings
- Maps
- Map Info
No other map must be checked because it will superimpose itself over the Marine product and you will no longer be able to see its details.
Quad, Snowmobile and Off-road Motorcycle products are available in two modes:
- Transparent mode: The transparent map is not routable and must be checked with a road or topographic map in your GPS unit's settings (Tools -> Settings -> Map -> Map Info) in order to see the trails superimpose themselves on the road map.
- Routable mode: The non-transparent map is routable and must be the only map checked in your GPS unit's settings (Tools -> Settings -> Map -> Map Info). No other map must be checked.
For Snowmobile Quebec, Quad Quebec and Off-road Motorcycle Quebec products, you must start and
end your route on a trail. Failure to do so results in a straight line route.
There could also be a missing piece in the chosen route. Make sure that the chosen route is continuous without cuts.
